2022 Rivian R1T Steering System Issues

Over the past few months, numerous complaints of steering system issues have been reported by those who own or lease a 2022 Rivian R1T. While the complaints concern various defects, the bulk of them focus on steering systems that lock up or become unresponsive without warning. The manufacturer has already launched for separate auto safety recall campaigns affecting this make and model, one of which concerns a loose steering knuckle fastener that can separate and cause a loss of vehicle control. Unfortunately, many customers are still awaiting the recall repair, leaving them hesitant to use their vehicles until they can obtain the recommended fixes.

The driver of a 2022 Rivian R1T stated that they were in the middle of making a left turn when the steering wheel froze and refused to allow the driver to complete the maneuver. As a result of this issue, the vehicle ran off the road and collided with a small tree. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, and the driver was able to take the vehicle to the dealership to have the bolts of the steering system tightened. However, the driver is still wary to operate the vehicle out of concern that the bolts will loosen and cause the same issue in the future. Many other customers have reported similar issues and concerns about these sudden steering system problems.
